Editing Clips After Generation

How to modify clip start/end times, update clip title and caption styling, and edit the post title and description after clips are generated

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Zencastr Clips is a paid feature that transforms longer-form content into several shorter video clips optimized for a variety of social media platforms. Clips supports content in English, French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish. With AI Clipping, Zencastr’s AI selects the best moments for you, while Manual Clipping lets you choose segments yourself.

After clips are generated, you can adjust their start and end times, edit post titles and descriptions, and change clip title and caption styling.

Manual Clipping is available on all paid plans. AI Clipping is available on the Grow plan or higher.

What Can Be Edited After Clips Are Generated

After generating a clip, you can still fine-tune certain details before posting to social media. You can adjust its start and end times, change the title and caption styling, and edit the post title and description.

However, key visual elements, like aspect ratio, layout, background, and watermark, must be set before clips are generated. Additionally, captions pull directly from the transcript, so any text corrections must be made before running the clip.

For instructions on customizing clips before generation, see this article for Zencastr-recorded videos and this article for uploaded videos.

Adjusting Start and End Times

Each clip has a defined start and end time, which determines what portion of the original recording appears in the final version.

To adjust the clip’s start and end times:

  1. On your Dashboard, click on the Clips tab in the left sidebar menu.

  2. Click the clip grouping that contains the clip.

  3. Locate the clip you want to update and click the Edit button below it.

  4. Click the arrow (>) next to Adjust Clip.

    • On the Preview, the highlighted green section in the playbar represents the clip’s current boundaries.

    • Clicking play in the Start Time section will play the entire clip from the beginning.

    • Clicking play in the End Time section will play the clip from a few seconds before the end.

  5. Drag the circle on the playbar to find the timestamp for the desired new start or end time.

  6. Copy the timestamp and paste it into either the Start Time or End Time field.

    • The time should be entered as hh:mm:ss.sss (hours, minutes, seconds, milliseconds).

  7. Click the play button in the Start Time section and watch the entire clip again to make sure you are satisfied with the timing changes.

  8. Click the Save changes at the top right.

Result: The edits to the clip start processing. The clip timing is adjusted. If you are adjusting the start time, the clip thumbnail will also update automatically.
