Using Footnotes

How to create, use, and download footnotes for your recording, including using them in Zencastr Editing and Clips.

Updated this week

The Footnotes feature lets you create timestamped notes during your recording sessions to track edits and highlight key moments. Footnotes are integrated into Zencastr Editing for easy navigation during postproduction and manual clipping and can be downloaded as a reference for external editing workflows.

In this article:

What Are Footnotes And Why Use Them?

Footnotes let you create timestamped notes during your recording sessions, visible only to you as the host. These notes can help you keep track of edits, mark key moments, or highlight standout segments.

If you’re using Zencastr Editing, footnotes are displayed on your timeline in the Editor, making it easy to locate and jump to specific points to cut sections, mute words, or correct the transcript. If you are using Zencastr Clips, footnotes are great for pinpointing segments you want to turn into clips using manual clipping.

Even if you’re using external editing software for postproduction, you can download footnotes as a separate text file once the recording ends. This lets you quickly locate the areas that need attention, ensuring no important details are overlooked.

No matter what your editing process is, footnotes serve as internal markers that help keep your workflow organized and efficient.
