Joining a Recording as a Guest on the iOS App

How to join a recording as a guest on the Zencastr iOS app. What the guest green room is and how to select audio and video settings.

Updated over a year ago

When guests use the Zencastr iOS App, they can join using the room’s recording link or a 5-digit code. They then pass through a green room before joining you in your room’s Recording Page.

The steps below are for the mobile app for iPhone and iPad. See this article for how guests join a recording from a computer browser.

In this article:

Join Flow

Guests using the Zencastr iOS App are first taken to a green room, a page that guests go through to enter the Recording Page. The host does not need to admit guests from the green room.

To join a recording on iPhone or iPad, guests:

  1. Use either the Recording Link or a 5-digit code from their invite email to open the Recording Room in the app.

  2. Allow Zencastr to access their microphone (and camera) if access hasn’t previously been granted.
📝 Whether guests need to grant access to both their microphone and camera or just their microphone depends on the recording mode. The ‘Record Audio & Video’ and ‘Record Audio, Show Video’ modes require both microphone and camera access. The ‘Record Audio Only’ mode only requires microphone access.

  3. Type or confirm their name.

  4. Click Next.

  5. Select or confirm the selection of their headphones and microphone (and also camera and camera orientation for the ‘Record Audio & Video’ and ‘Record Audio, Show Video’ modes).

  6. Click Join.

Result: Guests are taken to the Recording Page and placed in the call with the host and any other guests.

Joining a Room With Recording Link

The invite email that guests receive to record on Zencastr includes a Recording Link and a 5-digit code. Guests can use either to join the recording on their mobile app.

To join using the Recording Link, guests:

  1. Open the email or messaging app containing the invite.

  2. Within the invite, click the recording link.

Result: The Zencastr iOS App opens and guests are placed in the green room.

Note: If the recording link opens in a mobile browser, guests are prompted to download the iOS app as recording on mobile browsers is not supported. If the app has already been downloaded, guests tap and hold the Join button and then select Open in “Zencastr” to open the app.

Joining a Room With Code

The invite email that guests receive to record on Zencastr includes a Recording Link and a 5-digit code. Guests can use either to join the recording on their mobile app.

To join using the code, guests:

  1. Open the app.

  2. On the login screen, click the Join room with guest code button.

  3. Enter the 5-digit code.

  4. Click the Join room button.

Result: Guests are placed in the green room.

Selecting Settings from the Green Room

Notes About Selecting Settings

  • Wired microphones are generally more reliable than Bluetooth microphones.

  • Depending on the equipment connected to your iPhone or iPad, guests may be limited to using a single piece of equipment for both the microphone and speakers/headphones. For example, to use AirPods, they have to be both the microphone and the headphones.

  • To enter the Recording Page muted, guests can tap the microphone icon.

  • Guests can only select whether to use their front or rear camera in the green room. Once they join the Recording Page, the camera choice is locked. If they wish to change the camera used, they must exit the Recording Page and rejoin.

  • For the best experience, we recommend that all participants rotate their phone to the landscape (horizontal) orientation.

  • To enter the Recording Page with camera off, guests can tap the camera icon and select Off.

Selecting Settings from the Green Room

To select the speakers/headphones, microphone, camera, and camera orientation from the green room, guests:

  1. Allow the app to access their microphone (and camera) when prompted.

  2. Tap the speakers icon to select the equipment they will be using as their microphone and speakers/headphones.

  3. Tap the camera icon to select their front or rear camera.

  4. Rotate their phone to change their camera’s orientation.
